Research on Female's Status and Function in Villagers' Self-Government
in Underdeveloped Areas of Minorities
-----An Investigation Report of Four Minorities Villages

Abstract:
In order to get the first-hand materials about female's status in Villagers' Self-government of different minorities' villages, we made a detailed field survey in several minorities' villages in Yunnan province.
1. The situation of female's status and function in Villagers' Self-government of four minorities' villages
(1) The committee of Haizi Village and New Village (a community of Yi people)
A. The basic situation of the committee of village;
B. Female's work and function in Villagers' Self-government;
C. Different people's attitude and evaluation about women's taking part in Villagers' Self-government and female's status and function.
(2) The committee of Mangan Village and Mangan Village (a community of Dai people)
A. The basic situations of the committee of village and the sub-village;
B. Female's work and function in Villagers' Self-government;
C. Different people's attitude and evaluation about women's taking part in Villagers' Self-government and female's status and function.
(3) The committee of Heilongtan Village and its two sub-villages: Heilongtan Village---a community of Dai people; Mankesong village-a community of Hani people
A. The basic situations of the committee of village and the sub-village;
B. Female's work and function in Villagers' Self-government;
C. Different people's attitude and evaluation about women's taking part in Villagers' Self-government and female's status and function: a. Heilongtan Village; b. Mankesong Village.

2. The obstacles affecting women's participating in Villagers' Self-government:
(1) The level of productivity is low; the economy is less developed, and the necessary substantial conditions are lack;
(2) The favorable social environment and guaranteeing conditions for women to take part in Villagers' Self-government have not been formed;
(3) "The ratio politics" prevent women from taking part in Villagers' Self-government;
(4) The obstacles of mentality and quality;
(5) The traditional concept and culture about bearing in the community of Dai people;
(6) In Mankesong Village a great deal women have been out.

3. The countermeasures against facilitating women to join in Villagers' Self-government
(1) Improve the economy;
(2) Transform the environment to favor women to take part in Villagers' Self-government and perfect the guaranteeing conditions;
(3) Improve women's quality and change their own qualification to participant in Villagers' Self-government.
