Seminar

Dong Hao

Arriving at the town of J County, we heard that a seminar was being held in the town. The people from the whole province took part in it. The main content of the seminar was to discuss the customs, culture and habits of Yao people. The village that we were ready to visit just was a village of Yao people. However, our schedule was too urgent, so we didn't have time to take part in the seminar, which made us depressed. But when we planned to enter the village, we heard a piece of good news that the exports and the scholars who took part in the seminar had set out to the same village. So we could communicate with them and make investigation together, which was very lucky.
It was not very far that from the village to the government of the country, and a member of our team had been there twice, so we didn't take the car when we arrived at the government of the country. We walked toward the famous village along the alley. After 2 km of mountain alley, we were out of breath. Then we went to a road, which really was a cobbled road; its width was just 5 meters. It could be found that the road had just been paved, and the white sand was not pressed tightly. It was comfortable to step on it. Our luck seemed not bad.
When we arrived at the entrance of the village, the dusk had covered the whole village----in countryside people use electricity economically. Our arrival didn't disturb anybody. Following the member, we found the house easily where he had lived when he had investigated last time. When we passed the office of the villager's committee, we heard the tinkle of the cups. The minority villagers are always very enthusiastic for their guests. They must be entertaining the guests, and they will not stop unless the guests are drunk. So let us find these exports tomorrow, we decided to live first.
The host was very glad that we visited suddenly, which added our confidence to finish our investigation successfully. After exchanging greetings, our topic focused on these exports of the seminar naturally. The host, a teacher of the local school, told us that they had known these exports would come a month ago, the children of the school had prepared some programs specifically; the women of the village also prepared folk songs and dances; that afternoon, when the exports arrived, a performance to welcome them was held in the school.
I considered secretly," it is as if the leaders come to inspect." But I thought again that so many exports came to investigate, which was important for the village, so it was natural to have such a redcarpet reception. So I asked," will they stay here for several days?"
"They have gone," pouring the cups of tea for us, the host told us.
"Have gone?" I was so surprised that I almost couldn't hold the cup.
"Yes. They watched the performance; walked around the village, and left," the host said lightly.
"Then what people are having dinner at the office of the villager's committee?" I asked.
"They were the cadres from the government of the country. They accompanied with these exports to visit."
……
It was until the third day that the host mentioned these exports again. He told us that in the 50s last century his father had accepted a scholar's visit, which last seven days. He said," now, these exports are not like before." His words made me sleepless.
Later, we knew this seminar still did a good for this village----in order to greet the visit of the exports, the country repaired the road from the government to the village specially.
