Surrounded by mountains, Ping'an Village includes four branch-communities, three of which are built along three ridges and one is in mountain lap. The narrow rugged paths lead to various directions. All the villager get stuck in a complicated traffic net, which is also the net of interpersonal relationships, information of community and social control of community. Along these paths, everyday children go to school and leave school, graze cattle and bear firewood. Women are always taking these paths as their starting point to go to the out world.

Women of Ping'an Village have many common grounds with other minority' women: their social status is inferior to that of men. In the educational level, among the 12 women we talked to at random, only one woman accepted the education of middle school, the ratio is 8.3%. But the same ratio of man is 15.8%.
Besides taking part in working in field, women also assume the majority of housework-----either in busy farming season or in slack farming season, woman is the person to get up earliest to work in a family. They will do some cooking, washing and cleaning. Even when they have some leisure time, women are always doing some traditional sewing of Yao people.
