 Cane field of Mankesong Village |
Mankesong Village
is a natural village belonging to Heilongtan Villagers' Committee, located
to the northeast of the country government. In 2001, there were 57 households,
271 persons in this village. Among mankesong's villagers, aside from a
few Han people who came to this village because of marriage , others were
all Aini people (a branch of Hani people). In 2001, the average net income
was 860 Yuan. |

| "Female" is a paradoxical word for the villagers of Mankesong, especially for male. On one hand, under the influence of traditional culture of Hani people, which emphasized paternity and the authority of husband, female's status is very low. Women are subject to men in family and community. On the other hand, recently a lot of women drained out, so there is a symptom that some men who are at the age of marriage can't find a wife . At the same time, the educational level of female has been improved, and women began to have self-consciousness. |
 Walking as well as embroidering |
There is a long tradition of formal education in Mankesong Village----a middle school was put up in the 50s of 20 century in Gelanghe Country, which is very early in Menghai County and even in all countries of Yunnan Province. Under this condition, the educational level of villagers of Mankesong is very high. Among the villagers that we investigated at random, there are 54.3% of them who were graduated from middle school or above; the number of women is 53%, which is the highest among these villages we investigated. |
 Laboring Women |
The location of Mankesong is identical to a good geomantic place of Chinese tradition --- facing south and backing north; leaning upon mountain and close to water. The flourish forest was reflected in the Heilongtan Dam. The natural scene is beautiful and attractive. |
