Haizi Villager's Committee is located beside Kunming city, and the local Samei people (a branch of Yi people) has been Kunming since ancient era.
Total area of Haizi Villager's Committee is about 12 sq.km. There are 6 communities (natural village) belonging to the Committee, and New Village is one of them. In 2000, the Committee has totally 1520 villagers in 430 families, and there are 175.69 ha. plantation in the Committee.
Breeding milch cows is the villagers' primary vocation except planting. In year 2000, the average income of New village is 3112 RMB per capita.

Obviously, townie culture, which is mainly Han people's culture, has deeply affected Samei people living in New Village. The characteristic phenomena of Samei culture is rapidly disappearing. Merely 10 years ago, the ethical habiliments and language is still fashion, but now we can only find those ethical dresses from some old person, and most children under 10 years wouldn't like to speak the traditional language even in home.

At the same time, some troditional culture favoring women's rights are fading away. For example, there was no discrimination among Samei people when a man moved to live in his wife's family after marriage, and in this instance, the couple's children should use wife's family name. But now this phenomenon has disappeared and this kind of husband may be sneered by villagers.
